Visitor Information & FAQs

Thank you for considering visiting with us at First United Methodist Church-Commerce!

Whether you are joining us for worship or a special study or event, we hope the information on this page will help make your visit as easy as possible.

FUMC-C is located directly on State Highway 24, across from the Texas A&M University-Commerce campus.

For worship and most events, it is easiest to enter either through the main sanctuary doors, the door next to the church office, or ramp entrance—all of these sets of door face the main parking lot right off the frontage road of HWY 24.

For directions to our location, visit our directions page.

Visitor Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):

1. What Should I Wear?
Our two Sunday morning services and Wednesday evening service are traditional in format, but you are invited to come as you are to worship with us. At all of our services, you will find a range of attire. You will find FUMC-C to be a welcoming place where we are just happy to have you join us as you are!

2. What Nursery and Childcare is Provided?
We are committed to serve families with small or young children. We provide child care for all worship opportunities and special services. We ensure that your child’s safety is our highest priority. We provide qualified and skilled child care providers for all ages levels from 0-3 years. You will have the peace in knowing that your child is well cared, while you are within our facilities.

Our nursery is located in the Children’s Wing near the Chapel on the west side of the building.

Diaper changing spaces are provide in both the men’s and the women’s restrooms, as well as a special room in the nursery (when the nursery is in operation). There is also a private space provided for nursing mothers in the Drake Parlor.

3. Will I Be Expected to Give a Donation?
No. We expect members and regular attendees of FUMC-C to support the ministries of our church through their financial gifts. Visitors are always welcome to support the work of FUMC-C, but until you decide to make FUMC-C your church home, we are simply happy to be in community with you through our worship and ministries.

4. Will I Be Introduced as a Guest During Worship?
No. We want you to experience God in worship, and while we will greet you warmly (many people who have made FUMC-C their church home testify to this), we will not put you on the spot. Our members will provide you with welcome materials, and we hope that you will sign in either using a visitor card or the sign in books in the pews so that we can follow up with you after worship!

5. Will I Get to Meet the Pastors?
Definitely! The best way to make sure you meet the pastors is to plan to leave through the center aisle at the end of worship. Our pastors also try to greet people in the sanctuary before worship begins if time allows. If you would like to be sure you get to speak with a pastor, simply let one of the ushers know and they will be sure to get the pastors’ attention!

Some people prefer to keep to themselves when they first visit, and that is okay too! We look forward to getting to know you better whenever you feel comfortable doing so. If you would like to contact on of our pastors by phone or email, you can find their contact information here.

6. Can I Participate in Communion if I am not a Member?
Yes. When we come to the table for Communion, it is not a United Methodist table or even a FUMC table. Jesus Christ is the host of this holy meal, and he invites to his table all who love him and who seek to live in peace with each other.

7. How Does FUMC-Commerce Celebrate Communion?
The Sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of every month at FUMC-C.

At our Sunday morning worship services, Communion is served at the altar rail. Following the Consecration Prayers, ushers direct the congregation to file toward the front of the Sanctuary. Communion is served in groups while worshippers kneel at the altar rail. Communion servers offer a piece of bread and pass the tray of communion cups. Take a piece of bread and a cup when they are brought to you. You are invited to pray at the altar rail and return to your seat when you are ready.

At our 5:30 Wednesday evening service, we typically receive communion by intinction (dipping the wafer in the cup and taking both elements at once). However, you may also choose to eat the wafer and drink from the common cup. You are invited to pray at the altar rail and return to your seat when you are ready.
