FUMC-Commerce
is very active in mission projects at the local, state, national and
international level. Some missions require time, some financial
support, and some both. There are opportunities for service to
involve everyone. Here are some of the missions we support at
FUMC:
Fabulous
Fridays
Provides activities for the Boys and Girls Club of Commerce
during the summer. FUMC supports Fabulous Fridays with volunteers
and financial support.
Back
to School Project
Conducted every year at the beginning of school, this program
benefits children who need shoes, clothes, and basics for going back
to school. Donate $25 or any portion of that to Christians Make A Difference.
Bois
d' Arc Bash - Every September
FUMC "Comfort Station" offers a cold cup of water
and a diaper changing station to participants in Commerce's fall community
gathering; volunteer for
an hour or two staffing the booth.

Thanksgiving
Dinner - Every November
Offer Thanksgiving Dinner at FUMC to anyone who needs a hot
meal and
a little company on Thanksgiving day. Bake a pie or help serve.

Youth
Mission Trips
Every
year, the youth take mission trips. This past year they traveled
to Louisiana to help with Hurricane relief & to Juarez, Mexico to
build houses for families in need.
Proyecto
Abrigo - Year Round
Working together with Proyecto Abrigo, the people of FUMC donate
a week
of their time to build housing for the local people in Juarez, Mexico.

Manna
Movers - Year Round, every other Wednesday
Benefiting those who are hungry in the Commerce area; come
load and distribute food in partnership with Word of Life Church.

Shelly
Seay - Year Round
Provide Shelly a ride for her medical appointments in Greenville
and back home again.

Yam
Gleaning - Every November
Benefiting those who are hungry in North Texas; we'll gather
to glean sweet potatoes in a field in East Texas.

Tree
for Christ - Every December
This December offering benefits Golden Cross (offers medical
care to those in need through Methodist Hospital), Methodist Children’s
Home in Waco, Methodist Mission Home in San Antonio, and Commerce Alliance
of Ministries.
Salvation
Army Bell Ringing - Every December
During December FUMC members and other Commerce community residents
ring the Salvation Army bell at Wal-Mart to benefit local residents
of Commerce and Hunt County by providing assistance throughout the year.

UMW
Collections - Year Round
The United Methodist Women collect different items each month
for school children, residents at Oak Manor, and many others.

One
Great Hour of Sharing
This offering from children and adults in the church benefits
the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), which offers aid in
times of disaster.
Christians
Make a Difference - Year Round
A community effort to make a difference in the Commerce area
with those who are in need. Meets second Saturdays at 8:00 a.m.
in the Norris Community Center. All are welcome.
FUMC
also supports Hunt County Shared Ministry, Beit Sehour Medical Center
in Israel, Way of Salvation Church in Mytishchi, Russia, Mark Abbot,
a missionary in Spain, and Project Transformation in Dallas.
