Seasonal Missions
Community Thanksgiving Dinner:
Community Thanksgiving Dinner is a FUMC tradition that succeeds each year because of the many volunteers from our church and other congregations.

Ways to participate:
- Cook chili to provide meals-on-wheels clients an extra meal over the holiday
- Set up and decorate the tables in the FMC
- Make desserts
- Assemble meals-on-wheels Thanksgiving plates
- Serve and share Thanksgiving dinner with others in the FMC
- Clean up throughout the event
- Help underwrite the cost of the meals
- Look for sign-up sheets or call Melinda Reid to help at (903) 366-6493.
Salvation Army Bell Ringers:
Salvation Army Bell Ringers begin ringing bright and early the Friday after Thanksgiving. Ringers are needed Monday through Friday from 4:00pm to 8:00pm and Saturdays from 9:00am to 8:00pm for two-hour stints. All money put in the kettle remains in Commerce to help area residents throughout the year. Look for sign-up sheets in November or call Judy Rudoff at (903) 886-2039.
Prison Ministry Angel Tree:
Prison Fellowship Angel Tree will be up the Sunday after Thanksgiving. We provide 45 children with two gifts each – a clothing item and a “fun” gift that are given on behalf of the incarcerated parent. The two-fold goal is to assure that children feel connected to their parent in prison and to reach out to the prisoner.
Ways to participate:
- Purchase gifts for the angel and return them to the church unwrapped
- Bake cookies to give to the families on behalf of the church
- Deliver the gifts
- We are always grateful to the youth who wrap the gifts. Contact Judy Rudoff for more information (903) 886-2039
Alternative Gift Market:
Alternative Gift Market offers the option to designate charitable gifts in the name of your relatives and friends. The market also educates shoppers and gift recipients about various local and international charities and causes. But most importantly, the gifts purchased provide urgently needed resources to people and communities most in need. The gifts can be as expensive as a water buffalo for Heifer International to more moderate gifts of a Bible to send to Cameroon or standardized dress items for Commerce students in need. The contributor receives an acknowledgment card they may mail to the person they wish to honor. The emphasis is typically after Thanksgiving and before Christmas, but we provide gift giving opportunities throughout the year. Please contact the church office for more information at (903) 886-3220 or office@fumccommerce.org.
